Setting the principals using the tool's validation warning dialog failed:
MagicDraw/Cameo 19SP3: can't assign Statemachine submachine as principal of AdjunctProperty via validation warning dialog (confirmed bug). WORKAROUND: Set principal using the specification dialog.
But could use this nice feature as a workaround:
MagicDraw/Cameo: You can set many fields in an Element's specification dialog just by dragging compatible elements from the model browser onto the value area of the field.

  [SysML-1.6] State machines in block definition diagrams appear as regular blocks, except the «stateMachine» keyword may be used to indicate the Block stereotype is applied to a state machine, as shown in Figure 13-1.
