Due to popular request Webel IT Australia is now making downloads of selected slides sets from the main Webel Workshop Seminar for MBSE with SysMLv1 available for purchase as a bundled PDFs download.
The slide set download bundle currently includes the following selected slide set PDFs:
- The primary SysMLv1 language slide set used in the Webel IT Australia Workshop Seminar course for MBSE with SysML, including some tool-specific examples using MagicDraw/Cameo (CATIA Magic). Has complete coverage of the SysMLv1 language for everyone from essentials to the most advanced SysML topics, including Activity and StateMachine simulation and SysML Parametrics, and lots of workshop exercises and worked examples. Has over 600 slides!
- A Getting Started slide set (15 slides) with tips for recommended project and environment setup in Magic Cyber-Systems Engineer® (Cameo Systems Modeler®) required for the workshop exercises (including for the Webel Balls & Boxes sample problem).
- The Webel Balls & Boxes worked sample problem for getting started with SysMLv1 Blocks for structure and values, including especially learning about hierarchies, redefined properties, and capturing system configurations/variations. Perfect for beginners, and includes also some optional exercises for intermediate and advanced levels. The worked solution uses Magic Cyber-Systems Engineer® (Cameo Systems Modeler®) but the tasks can easily be attempted in most SysMLv1 tools. Has 100 annotated slides!

And yes, is still worth learning about SysMLv1, even though SysMLv2 has arrived. The tools for SysMLv2 are not yet mature, many organisations have a big investment in SysMLv1, and most of what you learn will translate easily to new SysMLv2 concepts and new terminology. SysMLv1 is not vanishing any time soon.
About the slide set downloads and how to use them
The slide set downloads are made available as is, in the hope that they are of benefit to students of SysML/MBSE. They have not been especially adapted for use outside of the Webel SysMLv1 course, but are nevertheless extremely useful for self study.
The slide sets are not structured or ordered like a book! There are some highly structured sections as well as collated standalone slides on additional and advanced topics, representing over 20 years accumulated knowledge about SysMLv1.
When presented in the course the slides are NOT necessarily presented in the order of slide pages. When used during the Webel SysML/MBSE course, the presenter can guide attendees through the slide topics and exercises by session.
The slides also in places address course attendees with specific actions such as for workshop exercises. Some remarks in the slides may not be as applicable to those just working through the slides alone using the PDF download edition.
Whilst one can identify some main categories within the SysMLv1 language such as structure, values, behaviour, constraints, calculations, and project-related themes such as packaging and ownership, these topics necessarily overlap, and it is not possible to present all topics in a simple sequence such that each topic builds on others that came before.
As you learn each SysML topic you will obtain incremental benefit. You should not aim to command every single topic all at once (nor use every single capability of the language initially when you model on your own projects).
You will find that as you work through the topics and exercises and apply SysML to your own projects you’ll get reinforcement of overlapping topics.
