You may be thinking that the State Space Representation as above for SysMLv2 is a rather complicated way to go about solving the equations of motion for a cart being pushed. It is however quite general and can integrate quite easily with external solvers (and to use it you don't have to deal with all of the underlying machinery).

A cart on wheels free to move on a horizontal surface and subjected to horizontal forces is frequently chosen as an example of motion in one spatial dimension. But the State Space Representation approach can be used for a wide range of systems with many possible states, which could involve any states of interest – not just states of motion – such as states of an electrical system.

Below you'll find some external links explaining the advantages (and special conditions for use of) the State Space Representation approach. The cart is sometimes combined with a pole that acts as an inverted pendulum to be balanced by an external force. Sometimes it is attached to one or more springs.
