Well one spends one's time carefully and lovingly preparing a scientific article for a "theme issue" of a well-known journal and then one submits it ...
Title: Port-based systems engineering of block models for control and simulation of Neutron Beam Instruments of the OPAL research reactor using UML/SysML

The Figure numbering of this gallery corresponds with the article. It is essentially a review of my early attempts to "re-appropriate" Unified Modeling Language (UML®) for port-based engineering of scientific instruments - including some notational tricks I developed for indicating flow ports - and my transition to Systems Modeling Language v1 (SysML®). There has been so much progress in Systems Modeling Language v1 (SysML®) tools since that this article is now essentially obsolete, however it does contain some interesting examples and illustrations, including snapshots of the Instrument ModelServer interfaces, and early attempts at UML® Parsing Analysis of instrument design manuals.
